Oenothera macrocarpa

A prolific bloomer with showy yellow flowers and a low, mounding growth habit. Flowers open in late afternoon and only last a day, but the plants bloom heavily over a long period of time each summer. Native to central and western Oklahoma, this resilient perennial tolerates drought and poor soils. Night-blooming flowers provide nectar for Sphinx or Hummingbird Moths. Flowers are followed by interesting winged seed pods.

Prefers full sun and well-drained soil, tolerates light shade. Self-seeds under favorable conditions.

Well-suited for borders and rock gardens.

AKA Ozark Sundrops.
