in 2.5” biodegradable pot

Amaranthus spp.

Amaranths are tall, well-branched plants that make a striking presence in the landscape and produce armloads of blooms. Plant in the back of garden beds, or use as a central showpiece. Heat loving and easy to grow in Oklahoma summers, as long as they get full sun and well-drained soil. Will thrive even with poor soil fertility, and the seeds are enjoyed by birds. Amaranths are annuals in our climate, but will often re-seed abundantly.

Large, textural plumes make a colorful addition to bouquets. Pinch out the center bud when the plant is young to increase branching. Flowers can also be dried. Open pollinated. Space 12-24” apart.

Dark Red

Large central spike with multiple side branches sporting smaller plumes. Dramatic burgundy leaves are edible when plants are young and leaves are tender. 4-5’ height.

Amaranth Mix

Got my labels mixed up so I’m not sure which is which, but mix includes Coral Fountain, Virdis or Bronze.

Coral Fountain – long, cascading, coral-pink blooms. 3-5’ height.

Virdis – Ropes of lime-green, trailing tassels. 3’ height.

Bronze – Bronze or green-bronze colored plumes. 4’ height.
