Tradescantia bracteata
Easy-to-grow native perennial with grass-like leaves and blue, three-petaled flowers that open in the morning and close by mid-day. Shorter than Ohio Spiderwort, it grows to only about a foot in height. Attracts butterflies and is particularly valuable for native bees. Adaptable to a wide variety of soil types and exposures, clump-forming, spreads enthusiastically. If foliage turns yellow/brown after blooming, can be trimmed back to 6-12” in mid-summer to encourage new growth. Hybridizes easily with other Tradescantia species. Medium to dry soil, full sun.
