Tradescantia ohioensis
An easy-to-grow native perennial with grass-like leaves and blue, three-petaled flowers.
Adaptable to a wide variety of soil types and exposures. Clump-forming, spreads easily. If foliage turns yellow/brown after blooming, can be trimmed back to 6-12” in mid-summer to encourage new growth. Grows 2-3’ tall, medium to dry soil, full sun to shade. Attracts butterflies and bees. The Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation has listed Ohio Spiderwort as ‘Special Value to Native Bees’ for attracting a large number of native bees, including bumble bees.
