(Bouteloua curtipendula) – Seed spikes form on one side of the stem with an oat-like appearance when dry. Look closely when it blooms in mid-summer with tiny reddish-purple flowers on the stems. This lovely, perennial grass is a larval host for several of the skipper butterflies, and the seeds provide food for birds. Grows 2-3’ high, full to partial sun, medium to dry soil.
