Lanceleaf: Native perennial wildflower. Prefers full sun but will tolerate light shade. Very drought tolerant and thrives even in poor soils. Bright yellow, daisy-like flowers will bloom all summer. Give thought as to where you plant it, since it can spread enthusiastically. Often used in roadside plantings and prairie restorations. Commonly called tickseed coreopsis because the seeds (sort of) look like ticks. Easy to grow. 2’ height. Full sun, medium-dry to dry.
Plains: (Coreopsis tinctoria) Annual wildflower native to central U.S. Also known as calliopsis. A prodigious summer bloomer, it has finely cut leaves and vibrant yellow flowers with maroon centers. Excellent in large plantings. Naturalizes well, and will enthusiastically self-seed under optimal conditions.
Full sun, but will take partial shade. 2-4’ in height, 18” wide spacing. Low maintenance.
Prairie: (Coreopsis palmata) Yellow flowers bloom on upright stems for 3-4 weeks each summer, attracting many native pollinators, especially bees. Underground rhizomes spread to form a dense mat. Native to eastern Oklahoma. Tolerates heat, humidity and drought. Grows 2’ height, full to partial sun, medium to dry soil.
