Celosia

in 2.5” biodegradable pots

...

Celosia, also known as cockscomb, is an excellent cut flower that blooms all summer long. It seems to happily soak up all the hot weather that Oklahoma can throw at it! Celosia has three primary forms: celosia plumosa (long plumes), celosia cristata (brainy type) and celosia spicata (flower spikes resembling heads of wheat.) All are beautiful, with long vase life. Full sun. In 2.5” biodegradable pots.

Celosia plumosa ‘Pampas Plume’ has masses of soft, feathery plumes in scarlet, orange, yellow, pink or cream. Branching plants produce multiple stems. Perfect bouquet filler. Grows 3-5’ tall.

Celosia cristata ‘Chief Mix’ has wonderfully odd, velvety flowers shaped like coral. Sturdy plants with strong stems in gold, rose, persimmon or red. Great fresh or dried. Grows 3-4’ tall.

Celosia spicata ‘Flamingo Feather’ has pale pink, small spires on branching plants. The soft flowers add a touch of sparkle to bouquets. Grows 2-4’ tall.

Pinching will increase the number of stems you’ll get from celosia. When the plants are 8-12” tall, pinch the stem with your thumb and index finger to remove the growing point.

HOW TO TRANSPLANT Biodegradable Pots

Before transplanting, keep a close eye on them as these pots dry out faster than plastic pots; walls of the pot should not dry out. Remember to wet the pot & seedling thoroughly before you transplant. Make sure the rim of the pot doesn’t show after transplanting. Bury the whole pot, or tear off the protruding edges of the rim before planting.
