Description

Canterbury Bells, aka Campanula, are one of a variety of hardy flowers that can be planted in the fall here in central OKC, and will overwinter for spring blooms. And bloom they will! The multiple stems are covered in deep blue-purple bells, and make excellent cut flowers, and as well as being beautiful in the landscape. Blooms in mid-spring. Annual, full sun.

To overwinter, plant in a sunny location; water and mulch well. Remember to water during periods of winter drought. While the blossoms are not cold-hardy, the seedlings will take freezing weather quite well, and they’ll bloom after the weather warms up. Row cover can be used on very cold nights for extra protection, but generally they don’t need it in our Zone 7 winters. Canterbury Bells can also be planted in the spring, but fall planted seedlings will bloom earlier and more abundantly.
